1. Tabernacle Choir Experience + Salt Lake City Tour

Recommendation: For most visitors, this is likely the tour you should put at the top of your list… but only if your trip to Utah includes Sunday or Thursday, with Sunday being the best experience.

This 3.5-hour tour combines the top sightseeing attractions of Salt Lake City (see #2 tour below for details) with a stop to hear the world-famous Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) in the longest continuously running network broadcast in the world.

It operates only on Sunday morning (a live broadcast concert) and Thursday evening (a rehearsal). The tour is fully narrated and travels a 15-mile loop around the city through historic districts. It includes stops where you can explore off the bus and, of course, a one-hour stop to hear the Tabernacle Choir at the historic Tabernacle auditorium at Temple Square (or the Conference Center auditorium during the peak summer tourist season to accommodate large crowds).

📍 Departure Location Radisson Downtown Salt Lake City Hotel
215 W South Temple (Paid parking available for $5-10 across the street in a public parking lot)

⏰ Departure Times Sunday: 8:30 AM
Thursday: 5:00 PM *(Based on Thursday rehearsal schedule)*

2. “Ultimate Salt Lake City Tour”

Travel Strategy: If you’re not in Utah on Sunday morning or Thursday evening to catch the #1 tour, (or if perhaps you don’t care to hear the Tabernacle Choir), then this is the guided tour to take.

This is the longest-running sightseeing tour in Salt Lake City, operating for nearly 50 years. It is by far the most efficient way to get a great overview of Salt Lake City. Many visitors are in town for no more than a single day, so this offers the best "bang for your buck." If you are staying for multiple days, this is "the best first thing to do."

In 2.5 hours you’ll cover a 15-mile loop that’s a mix of driving and exploring off the bus. Highlights include:

  • Hearing the famous pipe organ at Temple Square
  • A scenic overlook of the city
  • A pioneer monument on the mountainside
  • The Utah State Capitol (a real gem)
⏰ Departure Times Monday - Saturday: 10:00 AM (Year-round)

*During peak tourism season, additional tours run in the afternoon and on Sundays. Please check the calendar for availability.

Note: Advanced reservations are required.

3. Trolley Adventure Show-Tour of Salt Lake City

The "Disney" Factor: To sum it up in a single phrase: the other tours take you to see the attractions, whereas this Trolley Adventure is an attraction unto itself. If Walt Disney made a sightseeing tour, this would be it.

Perhaps you’ve taken trolley tours in other cities before? This is NOT that. It is not a hop-on hop-off tour, and it isn’t a traditional bus tour either.

As the name implies, it is a combination of a tour and a show. The vehicle is a colorfully restored trolley streetcar replica, and the guides are professional stage actors and musicians. They combine tradecraft (skits, comedy, music) with history. It’s arguably the most unique sightseeing tour you’ll ever find—with a 96% satisfaction rate.

What to expect: This 1.5-hour experience focuses heavily on the entertainment inside the trolley. You might even forget there is anything outside the window! Complimentary refreshments include a box of Cracker Jacks and a glass-bottled Coca-Cola.

🗓️ Seasonality & Schedule Dates: May through early October
Days: Monday – Saturday
Times: 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM

⏳ Duration 1.5 Hours (Downtown Loop)

Note: Reservations are required.

4. “Mysteries of the Great Salt Lake” Tour by Bus

Why take a guide? The visitor experience the State of Utah has created here is quite modest. If you drive yourself, you might feel underwhelmed. You will have a much better experience with a tour guide who can explain the fascinating science and history behind the "tranquil beauty" of this desert landscape.

Known as “America’s Dead Sea,” few lakes in the world are saltier than the Great Salt Lake. It is the largest lake in the Western U.S., and because the water is too salty for fish (and too salty to sink in), swimming here gives the unique sensation of floating on an invisible inner tube!

Managing Expectations: Don’t expect a bustling beach atmosphere. The lake is famous for its quiet, desert beauty. While it has a reputation for smelling of sulfur or having tiny flies, this generally only occurs during the peak summer heat (July/August). For most of the year, the smell is mild and the flies are absent.

If you are of the mindset, “I just can’t go to Salt Lake City and NOT see the famous Great Salt Lake!” then you will find this an enjoyable and worthwhile tour.

⏰ Departure Times Daily: 2:30 PM (Departs from Downtown)

⏳ Duration 2 Hours

Note: Advanced reservations are required.

5. Utah Copper Mine Tour

Crowd Favorite: This has been the most popular thing for visitors to see outside of downtown Salt Lake City for decades. It is the top sightseeing experience for those who want to get out of the city for a few hours.

The Bingham Canyon Copper Mine is a lot of things: the largest man-made hole on earth, the richest copper mine in history, and the world’s first open-pit copper mine (often called “The Richest Hole on Earth!”).

Because this is an active mine that operates nonstop, you’ll see dump trucks the size of two-story houses and shovels several stories tall. The observation deck features mammoth-sized mining equipment on display for you to stand next to (or inside) for photos. The professional tour guide will narrate everything from the history of the mine to the science and daily operations.

⏰ Departure Time 1:00 PM (Departs from Downtown Salt Lake City)

⏳ Duration 3.5 to 4 Hours (Travels to Oquirrh Mountains)

Important Note: Seating is very limited. We highly recommend booking early to secure your spot.
